Professor William Webb, FREng, FIET, FIEEE - Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining Neul William was Director of Technology Resources at Ofcom, the UK Communications regulator. William joined Ofcom in 2003 where he managed a team providing technical advice and performing research across all areas of Ofcom's regulatory remit. He also led major reviews conducted by Ofcom including the Spectrum Framework Review, the development of Spectrum Usage Rights and most recently cognitive or white space policy.
Previously, William worked for a range of communications consultancies in the UK in the fields of hardware design, computer simulation, propagation modelling, spectrum management and strategy development. William also spent three years providing strategic management across Motorola's entire communications portfolio, based in Chicago. William has published eleven books, eighty papers, and four patents. He is a Visiting Professor at Surrey University and DeMontfort University and a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IEEE and the IET where he is a Vice President. His biography is included in multiple "Who's Who" publications around the world. William has a first class honours degree in electronics, a PhD and an MBA.
David Smyth - Chief Financial Officer. David joined Neul as Chief Financial Officer in August 2011 and brings extensive experience and a record of success within dynamic, high-growth Telecom / Technology companies. He was one of the original senior management team at Orange, joining the company two years pre-revenue. As Director of Strategy and Investor Relations he played a major role in the company's success and rapid growth into a £25Bn group.
Most recently, as Group Finance Director for Macro 4 plc (a FTSE listed IT company), David managed all Finance, IR, HR, and IT activities and orchestrated the sale of the company at a 40% premium. Prior to this, David was CEO of a privately funded healthcare company and sat on the Board of Golden Telecom, a rapidly growing NASDAQ-listed Russian Telecom operator, where he was Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee.
David trained as a Chartered Management Accountant at Standard Telephones and Cables, is a Fellow of the Institute, holds a BA (Hons) in Accountancy and an MBA.
Robert Young - VP, Engineering. Robert was a co-founder of CSR, serving in various design and engineering management roles from 1999 to 2010. His most recent role was as VP, IC Design, responsible for the analogue, digital and system design teams. Prior to CSR, Dr Young held technical positions at Cambridge Consultants Ltd. He holds a first class honours degree and PhD in Electronic Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
Neil MacMullen - VP Software Systems. Before Neul, Neil spent 10 years at CSR where he held a number of senior technical and commercial positions including VP Software Development and SVP in charge of Wi-Fi. In the former role he was responsible for developing and overseeing a number of key software technologies central to CSR's growth and had line responsibility for over 200 staff worldwide. Prior to CSR he co-founded a startup, spending over ten years developing both software and hardware for a series of novel distributed parallel-processing systems. Neil has a B.Eng in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from University College London.
In addition to the directors of the company, there is a senior management staff in place who have been working together for many years, with in-depth expertise in :
- RF and SoC IC design – The team having been responsible for the successful manufacture of more than 2bn chips
- Communications System and protocol development - As key developers of several sections of the Bluetooth standard
- Network planning and spectrum planning allocation
- Networking, firmware and MAC protocol software in cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- International regulatory matters and standards certification
